Not a castle, but....

Last weekend (Sep. 30), I got to go on a really-truly Adventure. Pam's friend Sara was in town. I heard them say that they'd been friends since 3rd grade, and I don't know how old they are now, but I'll bet it's been a looooong time since they were in 3rd grade! Anyway, Sara, Pam and Dejo decided to climb up Castle Rock.

The town that Dejo lives in is called Castle Rock, and now I see why. There's a big rock in the middle of town that (surprise, surprise) looks like a castle. We hiked up to the base of the rock, which was pretty easy.

Then they started climbing up where there was no trail. Yikes! I'm glad I was safely tucked away in the pack! Once we got to the top, though, WOW! There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and we could see aaaaalllll around.

Here's a video of the view.

The other great thing about this -- aside from the obvious amazing view -- was the actual rock. There were little rocks (and some big ones!) stuck inside what looked like concrete, but there's no way that was all concrete. The "big kids" (that's what I'll call Pam, Dejo and their friends) were talking about it, and said it was some sort of sedimentary rock. It was cool, I know that. I had Pam pick up a couple of small samples, and I'll try to get them sent back to you. Here's a picture of what some of it looked like.

It was a great afternoon, and a view like I've never seen. I wish I had a harness that would make me into a kite, and I could have seen even more. But maybe that's next time......
